2015 Amerikanischen KoboldRiesling

There’s a theory that while Kick on Ranch grows some of the best Riesling in California, it is also cursed by a Goblin who was mistakenly wrapped amidst the original pile of German cuttings destined for California. Disgruntled by those who steal his Riesling treasures each vintage, he creates obstacles for those who interfere. Persistent cold wind? Goblin. Frost? Goblin. Flat tire on the way to the pick? Goblin. 

Sadly, the Goblin has won his fight. The 2015 vintage marks the end of our relationship with this unique, cold, sandy site that sits near the town of Los Alamos. A decision to pick the grapes slightly riper proved to be successful resulting in an abundantly expressive wine. The wine reveals new layers of complexity each time we pop a bottle and will continue to surprise with additional extended time in bottle. Even after 7 years it has maintained a lean, angular, and mischievous character with an unmistakable petrol, candied citrus and marzipan aroma. 

Bottled unfined and unfiltered. As with all Forlorn Hope wines, nothing was added to the must or wine (no cultured yeast, ML bacteria, water, tartaric acid, enzymes, nutrients, etc) with the exception of minimal effective SO2.
